The second annual Welcome to Tumbarumba evening on the 23rd of March, presented by the Chamber of Commerce, was another great success and reported by many, both old and new to town, as a wonderful idea and a fantastic evening. |
It was an opportunity for businesses and clubs in town to introduce themselves to the newcomers, and give the newcomers a sense of what is available in town for them and their families to take advantage of. |
We heard from many private businesses, as well as the Principal of the High School, who was wearing two hats that night, that of introducing the school and of being a newcomer. We also heard from the Principal of All Saints, and many of the clubs around town, including Rotary, who did a sterling job in cooking and presenting the free dinner, provided by the Chamber of Commerce, for everyone. |
After the businesses and clubs introduced themselves, Julie McDonnell, as the one most likely to know most of the newcomers, called the new individual families up to introduce themselves, if they so desired, giving everyone an insight into where people were from and what new talents and skills had arrived in town.
| Julie then presented the new families with an individual native tree seedling donated by Tumbarumba Shire Council, and a copy of the “What’s On in Tumbarumba” periodical that is produced by the local Chamber of Commerce. |
There were 25 businesses and clubs represented, and 30 Guests, being newcomers to town, and it was great to see lots of new playmates in town, 17 children (19 new families to town in the past year or so). The kids had a ball, and the adults had a pretty good time too.
One new family commented that they had never been made to feel as welcome by a new town in all their life as they had by Tumbarumba this evening.
Members of the local Chamber of Commerce felt quite lucky to be able to welcome the newcomers to town and also felt that it is always nice to meet new friends.
| Thank you to Michael and Alison at the Golf Club and Jackie and the staff behind the bar for their hard work in making it a good night and memorable for everyone attending. A big thank you also to Rotary for their hard work in cooking the dinner, and to the members of the Chamber of Commerce for their efforts in providing the nibblies and keeping us entertained.
The Chamber hopes to see more businesses and clubs make themselves available for an enjoyable night where they can also introduce their business to newcomers to town when the Welcome night is held next. Keep an eye on the “What’s on in Tumbarumba” periodical found on the Chamber’s website and available around town for more information. |
