8 November 2008 - Finding HMAS Sydney

You saw the amazing photos and video footage earlier this year when the wreck of the World War Two Cruiser HMAS SYDNEY was at last found off the Western Australian coast. Missing for sixty-six years following her battle with the German Merchant Raider HSK KORMORAN, one of the greatest naval mysteries has been solved!

The SYDNEY had been found.

If you have an interest in Naval history or would simply like to know more about the history of HMAS SYDNEY, the battle and her loss, then this is the chance of a lifetime.

Renowned Naval Historian and a key member of the "Find the Sydney" team, Lieutenant John Perryman, RANR, will be presenting the history, loss and discovery of the HMAS SYDNEY.

Lieutenant Perryman will, through the use of a comprehensive slide show, video and his personal experiences, present a captivating insight into why one of the greatest and best loved warships of the RAN was lost on that fateful afternoon in November 1941 with all 645 officers and crew.

The presentation will be in the Tumbarumba High School Multi Purpose Centre on Saturday, 8 November 2008 commencing at 3pm. Following the presentation there will be time to have all your questions answered on this famous ship.

Admission will be $10 for Adults and $5 for children (17yrs and under) which will include afternoon refreshments. Proceeds go toward the Tumbarumba Rotary Club's KOKODA 2009 Trek.

Following the afternoon's activities, there will be a rememberance Dinner at the Pioneer Hall, Lauder St, Tumbarumba. 1830 for a 1900 (7pm) start.

The dinner tickets are strictly limited to 200 and will NOT be available at the door.
