The following is the unabridged version of an article in the Tumbarumba Times, 16 April 2008.
Local Tumbarumba resident and businesswoman, Teresa French, has launched two new Internet Websites to “sell
Tumbarumba to the world” and to give local businesses the chance to make their presence known to the community.
The first website, www.tumbarumba.com is intended to showcase Tumbarumba’s recreational, community and local business
achievements.
The benefit of this website will be to first of all let the rest of our “patch” know of our beauty, our hidden treasures and
the high quality of life available here. The global nature of the internet also means that the whole world can also learn
about Tumbarumba. The added benefit would be to give the local community their own voice and perspective of local events,
to be achieved by direct input from local organisations. Of course, this web site will also provide links to other
existing web sites such as that managed by the Shire Council.
Lots of great things happen in and around Tumbarumba. For example, a local wine winning a national or even an international
award, mention of the Southern Cloud, and other individual achievements. This web site will literally make these
milestones and the region of Tumbarumba known around the world.
The second website, www.tumbarumbabiz.com.au, has been designed as an on-line business directory. This means that existing
residents, new residents and potential residents can easily find the product or service that they need. In addition it
means that the full scope of what is available in Tumbarumba and its local area is more readily accessed.
This on-line directory is intended for all local enterprises; from businesses run from home to cottage industries to small
businesses to full blown shopfronts. An Internet presence can be a great benefit to most businesses. However, for a small
annual fee all businesses can list in this on-line directory even if they do not already use the internet. In some cases,
such as for Churches and Charities etc, the annual fees may be waived.
New and potential residents will be easily able to learn vital information such as how many Doctors practice in town, is there
a Dentist, Hospital, Primary School, High School, long day-care services, supermarkets open seven days, restaurants and
cafes, cinema, footy clubs for the kids, etc. The availability of this information may well influence potential
residents in their decisions to move to this area. And, once again, the vast reach of the internet makes this information
available anywhere.
People who are new to town don’t always have information available to them that locals and long-time residents have. That is
a fact of life in any town or community. It takes time to glean that information, and can be a long time process!
Local resident, Graham Pack, who moved to Tumbarumba 2 years ago, says, “When I first moved to Tumba I found it quite
difficult to find out what was available and who did what around town. People were very helpful but it would have been
great to have all this information at my fingertips. Now I also have an avenue to make known my own woodworking skills.“
It is a well known fact that the internet is making the way we find information and the way we do business and communicate
with each other a vastly different place to what used to be. These two websites have the potential to make “the world”
Tumbarumba’s oyster!
To be part of the on-line business directory www.tumbarumbabiz.com.au, businesses, enterprises, individuals…anyone can either
register online by going to www.tumbarumbabiz.com.au or by contacting Teresa French on 6948 3419.

the website a many-faceted picture of what they can find in this region.
